Sign up process and activation

First and foremost, we respect your privacy. Keeping your data secure and private is at the heart of Nian. With that said, let’s get you started with the sign up process.

1. Read our Privacy Policy, the End User License Agreement (EULA), and the permissions you will need to provide Nian to begin use.

After you have finished reading, tap continue to proceed.

2. Tap the circle at the top left of the prompt to agree to grant Nian access to your phone number, camera, microphone, and contacts.
3. After tapping the circle on the top left of the prompt, tap “accept and continue” to agree to the terms and conditions.

4. Nian will ask for your phone number. This is done to ensure that your account is secure and that you can be verified. Enter your phone number and tap continue.

5. A verification SMS will be sent to the phone number you have entered. Enter the verification code sent to your phone and tap continue.  If you are having problems receiving a verification code, please refer to our FAQ.

6. You are now ready to use Nian!  But first, you should take your time to invite some of your close ones to Nian to send your first video message. 

Adding contacts

1. From the conversation view, tap the + at the top right of the screen.
2. You will see a list of your phone contacts if you have given Nian permission to access your contacts. 

3. Tap the pink + next to the contact you wish to add. This will send them a request to connect.
4. If your contact accepts your request, you will be notified via notification!

Sending videos

1. From the conversation view, tap on the profile picture of the contact or group you wish to send a video message to.

2. Tap the record button to start recording your video message.
3. Tap the record button again to stop the video recording.

4. You can preview your video by tapping on the chat bubble after recording.

5. After recording your video, tap on the record button again (now with a paper plane icon) to send your video message.
6. Your video message has now been sent to recipient.

Share location

1. To share your location, first record a video message to any of your contacts by tapping the record button.
2. Tap the record button again to stop the video recording.

3. Next, tap on pin icon that appears after you have recorded your video message. This will attach your location to the video message.
4. Tap the record button again to send the video message to your contact.

5. To see the location data of the video message you have sent or received, simply swipe left or right on the video message bubble to reveal the location.

You can see if a location has been attached to a video message if a pin icon is visible at the bottom of the chat bubble.

Note: you will need to allow Nian to access your location data to use this feature. 

Creating a group

1. To create a group, from the conversation view tap on the + on the top right of the screen.

2. Above the contacts list tap “New group”.

3. Tap on the contacts you wish to add to the group, then tap next. Note that you need to have a conversation going with a contact in order to add them to a group.

4. Type in your new group name, then tap next.
5. And voilà, you have created a group! Say hi and activate the group by sending a video message.

Share Nian

1. From the conversation view, tap on your profile picture.
2. Tap on Share Nian.
3. You can now ask your close one to use their phone or tablet camera to scan a QR code from Nian on your device, taking them to the App or Play Store, where they can download the safe video messenger.

Go Unlimited

1. From the conversation view, tap on your profile picture.
2. Tap on Go Unlimited.
3. Tap on €0.99 / Month. This will redirect you to the Play Store or App Store where you can start your Unlimited subscription!
